*SECURITY PARAMOUNT FOR INVESTMENT, GOV. MBAH*
The Governor of Enugu State, Dr Peter Mbah, has assured of his readiness to partner the Police to eradicate crime and maintain utmost security in the state.
Governor Mbah who was ably represented by the Commissioner for Special Duties, Hon. Sunday E. Ajogwu, during a courtesy visit to the State Commissioner of Police at Commands Headquarters Enugu on Thursday, commended the Commissioner of Police, CP Kanayo Uzuegbu, on his efforts to reduce crime to the barest minimum in Enugu State.
Hon. Ajogwu noted that for the governor to achieve his plans for the people of Enugu State, he needed a secure environment which would attract investors and increase the state's revenue.
Hon. Ajogwu pointed out that since His Excellency, Dr. Peter Mbah, banned the illegal Monday sit-at-home, crime had drastically reduced in the state.
The Special Duties Commissioner appealed to the CP to re-strategize his security tactics and beef up security on Mondays in order to encourage people to go about their businesses without fear, especially the petroleum sector which does not open on the illegal sit-at-home days. This he explained would help boost the economy of the state as well as encourage other sectors to come out without fear on these specific days.
He frowned at the re-emergence of motor bikes within Enugu metropolis which was a threat to security and called the attention of the Police Commissioner to use his good office to enforce the law that prohibited the use of motor bikes within the metropolis, which existed since 2012, adding that the law is still operational.
He further opined that dispatch bike should be banned from operating after 7pm to reduce crime in the state. He said that the dispatch bikes would be registered and given unique numbers for easy tracking in case of any criminal activity linked to them.
Hon. Ajogwu informed the CP that he would participate as a partner, in the Security Summit the ministry would organize on 7th December, 2023. He disclosed the title of the program as "Indigenous Royal Security and Development Summit" and said that the aim was to educate the Traditional Rulers, Police and other security experts on the need to ensure a crime free society. This he said would help reduce crime in the rural areas, promote conducive environment in the state as well as reduce rural/ urban migration.
Responding, the Commissioner of Police Enugu State Command, Kanayo Uzoegbu, expressed deep appreciation to the State Governor for his support to the Police and commended Commissioner Ajogwu for his contributions towards security.
CP Uzoegbu said that the dispatch bikes should be registered in the office of the Commissioner for Special Duties and opined that the Commissioner should organize a town hall meeting, involving the stakeholders in the state in order to impact a behavioral change on the people concerning coming out on Mondays.
He gave assurance to maintain peace and security to attract investors as well as boost the economy of the state. He said that the Security Summit was a welcome development and promised to be part of the program.
