Another Iwaji/Highmass Without Igwe, A Thing To Ponder
Iwaji/Higmass is Akama Oghe cultural heritage and this has been celebrated by the community over the years.
Iwaji/Highmass has been a celebration that brings the people of Akama Oghe together to recognize each other and merry together. This wonderful August celebration had featured so many cultural displays and other eventual activities.
It is an event that marks the beginning of new yam for the year and comes with other traditional rites. It is usually an occasion where new age grades are unveiled and some reputable men are recognized with titles by the traditional ruler (Igwe).
Unfortunately, this traditional heritage has been celebrated for over five (5) year without a traditional ruler after the demise of the Igwe K. O. Ugwuozor Dimeze III of Akama Oghe.
It became worrisome when the community after having successfully organized and conducted election for another traditional ruler but the enemies of the community thwarted it and held the community at standstill.
The most unfortunate is that some people have made so many attempts to stop this eventful annual cultural heritage from being held in our community.
What went wrong?
Where are the good people of Akama Oghe?
Are we comfortable celebrating another Iwaji/Highmaas without a traditional ruler?
Are there some people gaining something from the Akama Oghe current ordeal?
I have always advocated that the evil that men do should leave with them.
Another Iwaji/Highmass celebration in Akama Oghe without a Traditional Ruler (Igwe) is a crime against our ancestors and the consequences may be grave.
I will still wish us Happy Iwaji/Highmass.
